Vinca Minor Plant 02

It is a perennial herb.
From the creeping base, creeping and erect stems arise, bearing opposite, oval, dark green, papery and persistent leaves, which produce solitary terminal blue flowers with five asymmetrical, square petals.
The plant contains 0.3 to 1% total alkaloids. Vincamine (which constitutes approximately 10% of these total alkaloids) is associated with thirty other indole alkaloids of the aburnane type (vincine, epivincamine, aburnamonine), of the aspidospermane and related types (cobracamine, vincadine, minovincine, vincadiformine), of the binary type (vinblastine) or of the corynanthene type.
The small periwinkle is a common plant in all European forests (up to 1300 m altitude) and as far south as Russia.
